Maeve is actually the best flanker in the game right now, alongside with Evie. She is the most mobile champion in the game and is pretty good at poking people because she has no damage fall off. She also has a lot of damage reduction cards which will help her to be more solid in a fight and easily walk away from a fight if needed.

Flanking is probably the most difficult role in the game, all your decisions will have a huge impact on the course of the game.

Notes

Talents :

-Street Justice

Pounce now executes targets below 35% health.

-Cat Burglar

Deal 30% more damage from your first two Weapon Shots within 5s of Prowl ending.

-Rogue's Gambit

Eliminations reset the Cooldown of Pounce and Pounce deals 10% more damage.

Street Justice is the easiest talent, good to finish off the tanks or challenge characters with low health.

Cat Burglar is her strongest talent, each dagger deal 520 damage within 5s of Prowl ending.

Rogue's Gambit is Maeve's most difficult talent, you need a pretty good aim while moving and jumping around. It is only strong against players who can't aim someone who keeps staying in the air and can be a good way to escape when you get a kill.

Skills :

-Daggers (Direct Damage)

Throw two Daggers every second that each deal 400 Damage.

-Pounce (Direct Damage)

Quickly Dash Forward. Collide with an enemy to perform a melee Strike for 400 Damage. (cooldown : 10secs)

-Nine Lives

Reset the cooldowns of Pounce and Prowl and heal for 400. (cooldown : 20secs)

-Prowl

Move 50% Faster and increase your jump height for 5 seconds. Firing your weapon or using another ability will cancel Prowl. (cooldown : 12secs)

-Midnight (Ultimate)

Enemies within 300ft have their vision restricted to a 30-foot radius for 4 seconds. (you can buy resilience level 2 to make her midnight last 2secs, CC immune targets are no longer affected by this ability)

What item to buy ?

Cauterize is the first item you need to buy and get it to level 3 as fast as possible

Haven if you play against characters who do direct damage like Maeve, Cassie, Snipers etc...

Blast Shields if you play against characters who do area damage like Willo, Drogoz, Bomb King etc...

Resilience if there's a lot of Crowd Control like Mal Damba's ult, Inara's ult, Ash's ult, Pip's slow etc...

Wrecker if you play against a Vivian or a Torvald

Rejuvenate buy this if you trust in your healer, very useful if you play with a Jenos or a cherish Furia

Illuminate if you have to deal with a Skye, Strix or Sha lin

Nimble if you want more movement speed

Master Riding if you die a lot or if you want to get behind the enemy team as fast as you can

Life Rip and Kill to Heal are not that useful because cauterize affects them, it will be more interesting to get a damage reduction instead

Morale Boost/Chronos aren't that convenient because there are better things to buy before those

Bulldozer can be useful vs Imani's dragon or against an Inara who plays cripple or against IO's pet etc... but that shouldn't be your main item. You can buy it if you really need to and if no one in your team already picked it

Veteran is your last resort if your healer ignores you during the whole game (can be really useful for a Flanker to get back into the fight as fast as possible)

What is your main goal ?

Your main targets are the enemy flanker, the healer, the damage, the off tank and if there's a sniper that should be your main concern, but let's just say if the enemy flanker and the off tank are doing a great job killing your backline you should help your team first otherwise you will find yourself in a very difficult situation where your whole team died and you are the last one standing. Do not waste your time shooting nothing but the tank point, you can of course poke him or finish him if you have to. Once you have cauterize 3 you should not worry too much about the healer.

If you truly want to be an effective flanker you should stay alive and put some pressure in the backline, it doesn't matter if you can't kill many targets, your main role is to always be present to distract the backline and getting one important kill can make you win. Try to be like that annoying mosquito who keeps flying and disturbing you but never dies. However, sometimes sacrificing yourself can be a good thing, like for example if your team died and you need to contest the point you can rush in and die on the point, that way it may allow your team to come back and touch the point again or when you know that you will die because you have no way to escape don't waste your time resisting it's better to die near the payload so they won't be able to keep pushing it thus you can return with your team or die on the point so they can't contest it while you are still on it or just jump off the map so you can pop up with your team and get back into the fight together.

If you play against experienced players, you have to play safely and inflict damage from far away, no need to rush.

It is highly recommended to play along with your off tank (if there's one in your team), you will be more impactful and powerful together. If your off tank doesn't want to cooperate and sticks around the tank point instead of helping you, you should do your best and play on your own. But of course, you don't have to stack with your off tank all day, if there's a sniper and the off tank can't get to him, you have to deal with him by yourself.

When you are close to a wall you will jump higher, use it to your advantage. Maeve can also double jump or jump one more time after using Pounce, but be aware that she will be more vulnerable as it will make her move slower and advanced players will take benefit of it, so use it carefully. Before going into a fight keep your mount on to see what's going on around you and what you should do and also always make sure that your Nine Lives is available or at the very least have one escape available. If you keep dying when you are flanking you should be more patient, hide and wait for the right opportunity to go into a fight or just poke until you see you can get a kill. You can use your emote to get the 3rd person view for a short moment.

If you have a hard time aiming and you keep missing your shots you can use "Street Justice" but you will always be close to your opponent which can be deadly. Do not hesitate to use high grounds, you will be more safe. Maeve requires knowledge of the map you are playing, it can be hard to flank on a map like "Frog Isle" or "Timber Mill" but you can play with the angles and do damage with your daggers while staying hidden.

Watch Simsiloo's Maeve on YouTube to get a better understanding of the character.

All the loadouts I'm showing can be played either with Street Justice or Cat Burglar.

Good against
EvieAndroxusDredgeDrogozKinessaMojiSerisSkyeTerminusTyraViktorWilloGrohkJenosFuriaKogaZhinPip
Notes

My matchup knowledge isn't the best but I will still try to elaborate on the reason why I think she is good against these characters. Keep in mind that if you used all your abilities you will be more vulnerable thus much easier to kill, so be careful when using your skills. Also watch out for your opponent's abilities, if they already used their escape you can take advantage of it and kill them.

Evie : Maeve is a counter to her, it's "easier" to hit an Evie with Maeve's daggers than it is for an Evie to hit a Maeve with her slow frozen blast. But you really need to be consistent with your daggers and your abilities have a much longer cooldown unlike Evie, so be careful with that.

Androxus : you can just keep distance and kill him, but if the Andro player doesn't miss a shot things might go terribly wrong. Keep an eye on his dashes, if he used all of them it will be less difficult to kill him and of course watch out for his reversal, you can easily dodge it with Pounce or hide behind a wall.

Dredge : even though he is a very slow character he can do a lot of damage in an instant and kill you, he is also too tanky early games and can use his shortcut to escape, but I still think Maeve has an advantage on him since she has more mobility and can jump pretty high so the Dredge player can't really hit you.

Drogoz : you are a counter to him, it won't be easy for a Drogoz to land a hit on a Maeve who keeps moving, running and jumping around. At first it will be hard to hit a Drogoz who is flying but you can easily close the gap with Pounce.

Kinessa : she doesn't have much tools to deal with a good Maeve.

Moji : keep distance, you can easily see her coming.

Seris : she can't do much damage and her shots are easy to dodge, you will probably force her to use her escape and then follow her if you can and finish her.

Skye : she lacks mobility and doesn't have much health, you can easily kill her. Buy illuminate 1 or 2 if you never see her coming, you can also hear her footsteps.

Terminus : keep distance, jump over him to hit his back. Do not hit his Siphon.

Tyra : move a lot and keep some distance.

Viktor : use your movement speed.

Willo : you are a counter to her, she can't really hit you while you are jumping pretty high in the air, watch out for her Flutter she can kill you if you used all your abilities.

Grohk : he is annoying to kill at early games because he has too much healing, but he really isn't a big of a deal in 1v1. Watch out for his ult, the only thing that could get you killed.

Jenos : easy to kill in 1v1 because he won't deal enough damage to kill you, he doesn't have any escape, but always keep one Pounce available if you get close to him (counter Void Grip with resilience if you need to).

Furia : you can poke her from far since she lacks mobility. When you get close to her she will use her beam so be ready to dodge it. Do not underestimate her damage though, she does good damage and can kill you.

Koga : he is not a problem anymore you can kill him before he kills you. It can be frustrating to deal with a Koga player who keeps dashing, but you should just aim where he's dashing and then shoot at him.

Zhin : it might be a little difficult to deal with a Zhin player because his shots have a big hitbox and he can go back to full health if he plays Smolder, he can use his counter and can just run away with Billow and Spite, but Maeve still has better tools to deal with him since she has more mobility and can use high grounds and can burst faster. Watch out for the third hit of his primary attack.

Pip : his capacity to slow ennemies can be hard to deal with & his ult is very strong too (buy resilience to counter both) and he can heal himself back to almost full health early games, but with cauterize level 3 he won't be a big problem in a 1v1. Just watch out for his ult & slow.

Weak/neutral against
AtlasBarikBomb KingBuckCassieFernandoGroverImaniInaraLexLianMakoaRuckusSha LinStrixTalusTorvaldVivianMal'DambaKhanAsh
Notes

Atlas : don't waste your time with him and never try to challenge him because he does too much damage.

Barik : his Barricade, Turrets and Rocket Boots are a pain in the neck for Maeve.

Bomb King : you need movement speed so he will have a hard time hitting you, don't use your double jump if you are close to him because it will be easier for him to hit you. Buy blast shields if he gives you a hard time.

Buck : too tanky, too much self heal early games, he can slow you down (buy resilience if you need to) and you should keep some distance because he does tons of damage.

Cassie : an advanced Cassie player will be your worst nightmare, she is a big counter to Maeve and her ult is a counter to "Midnight".

Fernando : his shield is way too big and his fireballs are strong vs her.

Grover : watch out for his cripple, it can get you killed.

Imani : even though she is a slow character her stun is very useful and her fire stance does a lot of damage in 1v1.

Inara : she is way too tanky, you better stay away from her. Don't underestimate her damage, a good Inara player won't have any trouble dealing with Maeve.

Lex : does a lot of damage + auto aim ability + too much lifesteal. Use your movement speed.

Lian : counter to Maeve, auto aim + too much burst. Never get too close to Lian without having your escapes on because we never know when she might ult.

Makoa : his grab will be your nightmare.

Ruckus : don't try to challenge him in 1v1 a good Ruckus will just kill you.

Sha lin : 2 shots and you die so you better be really consistent with your shots if you want to kill him before he kills you.

Strix : it's nearly impossible to approach a good Strix player, his head shot deals 1800dmg and 1200dmg on the body, so one shot on your body + one hit with his flare (if they play "Unauthorized Use" talent) is enough to kill you. He can enter stealth (you can buy illuminate 1 if you never know where he's going) and he can blind you with his ult so don't get too close to him if you know his ult is ready. You need to wait the right opportunity to approach him or hide behind walls and poke him, don't reveal yourself too much.

Talus : you will never be able to kill him in one try because he will teleport back and he also does a lot of damage when you are close to him and his movement speed can be annoying to deal with.

Torvald : Nullify will get you killed.

Vivian : her shield and ult will get you killed, so be careful when you attack her. She can also reveal ennemies.

Ying : her illusions will get in your way.

Mal'Damba : there's not much you can do against a strong Mal'Damba player (need to buy resilience if you keep getting stunned or ulted).

Khan : you can jump over his shield, but he still does a good amount of damage so you need to be careful, do not challenge him.

Ash : keep some distance or stay on highground, if she tries to escape stay in front of her if you have enough health this way you will cancel her escape. Never stay next to her if there's a low ceiling because it will allow her to deploy her ultimate faster.
